Amidst all the excitement, Sheldon and I were hit with the reality that we were potentially going to be parents in a week! With such short notice, we didn't really have time to get a lot of baby stuff together. All I had was a couple onesies, one pack of diapers, and some receiving blankets. That was basically it.
Then the help came flooding in!
One of my sisters gave me bottles, a bassinet, and lots of other great items. My lifelong friends came over to help me set up a nursery, my mother-in-law took me to Babies-R-Us for a crib and dresser and tons of baby supplies...the list goes on and on.
But some of the most special gifts came from complete strangers! Unbeknownst to me, my friend Tyler (who happened to be my boss at the time and is a great pastor at a local church) told his men's group a little about our crazy situation and they donated A LOT of money. Then his wife, Bridget, (who is also a wonderful friend and AMAZING chiropractor) emailed her group of friends and people just started dropping things off in my office! It's was so crazy and fun and unexpected.
I also received a text on my phone from a lady who told me she got my information from Bridget. She let me know that she recently adopted her son and she would love to give me a bunch of stuff that he didn't need anymore. She lives about 1 hour away and she drove all the way to my house to give me the stuff which included a carseat, base, and snap-&-go stroller. She and her son ended up staying for a long time and she shared all about her adoption journey. It was so nice to hear her experience while in the midst of ours!
By the time we were a couple days away from Emily's due date, we had received almost everything we needed from by family, friends, and strangers. It was an overwhelming display of support and generosity and we were again reminded of God's goodness.
But as we were eagerly preparing for baby's arrival, the phone rang again.
